How long is your workout?
You probably have read about how intense workouts are for body builders. They train everyday (although they don’t exercise the same muscles everyday) for hours doing many repetitions working every muscle in their bodies. That is a serious workout regimen and the results of it are amazing. Their training intensifies right before a competition and then drops off after it. No one can keep up a strenuous training schedule all the time. If you are like the rest of us you don’t need to exercise or strength train that much (you probably don’t have the time either) but you probably wonder if you are doing enough training.
How long do you work out?
The time that you spend strength training or even aerobic training is up to you and this can be difficult for some folks because that don’t know if they are doing enough. Of course knowing if you are doing too much is easier to tell especially if you are completely wore out after a workout. Being tired is understandable but being totally exhausted to the point that you can’t do anything after you are done training is a sign that you are doing too much.
It is always a good idea to take exercise slowly when you are older and exercising. Give it some time and you will find yourself in good shape. The key is to gradually increase your work out whether it is increasing the weight that you are losing or increasing the time that you are walking. This is extremely important if you are an older adult.
The CDC has a general guideline for older adults who are strength training or doing aerobics training. Just remember to pace yourself while training and don’t overdo it.
